The Strut ‘n Stroll was an exhibition with a difference.  Set in an atmosphere of fun and nostalgia, it was a celebration of 1950s design, fashion, song and dance after the austerity of the war years. Six groups of older people, men and women from across Belfast, have reminisced on the era and woven their stories and memories through a series of workshops with the help of three Play Resource artists. A selection from the dazzling array of arts and crafts produced was presented on Friday 20th March via a unique 50s- styled fashion show. This interactive exhibition did more than simply showcase our older people’s artistic talents; it’s was an opportunity to sample first hand the craic we had throughout the project and how participating in the Arts uplifts and feeds the soul.

Many thanks to the six groups that took part in this wonderful project.  They really were the stars of the show.  They are:

  • Skyway Club
  • Grove Day Centre
  • Families Beyond Conflict
  • Ballyowen Day Centre
  • City Way Day Centre

A special thank you must also go to:

The three wonderful artists who have worked on this project.  They went above and beyond their remit to produce this fantastic event:

Anna O’Kane, Anne Quail and Bridget Owens

The Ulster Hall for providing us with the space and all the extra help they have given us in setting up the show.

Lastly, without funding from the Arts Council of Northern Ireland this project would not have happened.  A massive thank you to ACNI and their staff for all their help with this project.
