POMPOM FLOWER BOUQUET

You will need:

  • Yarn or string
  • Masking tape
  • Funky foam (green)
  • Scissors
  • Skewers or lolly sticks
  • Flower pot (optional)
  • Tissue/newspaper (optional)
  • Ribbon (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Loop yarn around your fingers until you have a decent sized bundle. We used pink yarn here but any colour could be used, as well as ribbon/different coloured yarn in one flower to add interest.
  2. Tie a length of yarn around the middle of the bundle to secure and snip the looped ends.
  3. You have now made a pompom (further tutorials and pompom making instructions are available on the web).
  4. Pinch a couple of strands of the pompom and tape securely to a skewer. We used skewers to make a nice long stem, but lolly sticks will work just as well.
  5. Cut two leaves from green funky foam, leaving a little excess to tape to the base of the flower stem. Tape down to secure.
  6. Wrap tape all the way down to the bottom of the stem and your flower is finished.
  7. Continue making flowers until you have enough for a bunch. If you wish to display them in a pot, we decorated a flower pot, and stuffed newspaper/tissue in it to secure.
  8. A nice ribbon could be tied round your flowers if you would rather present them to your loved one like this.

Winner of Leadership and Good Governance Award – Small Organisation

Play Resource applied to the Leadership and Good Governance awards. The Awards are organised by the VSB Foundation in partnership with CO3 and Volunteer Now.  They recognise voluntary organisations and their Boards, who are working hard to improve their governance. We attended the award ceremony on 16th November in the Long Gallery in Stormont.  We were delighted to win the award in the small organisation category.  Many thanks to our Board who are always there to support, guide and drive the organisation forward.

RUDOLPH WREATH

You will need:

  • Polywreath
  • Polyball
  • Glue/glue gun
  • Scissors
  • Acrylic paint
  • Pompom
  • Brown/black chenille
  • Wiggle eyes
  • Star stickers

Instructions:

  1. Wrap lengths of hessian around a polywreath, gluing on to secure.
  2. Cut an extra length of hessian and glue this in the centre of the polywreath, attaching at the top and bottom. Loop it at the top and glue down to secure (so you can hang it later).
  3. If using a large 15cm polyball this will come in two halves already, otherwise you will need to cut one in half. Paint it brown using acrylic paint (as this is more water resistant and goes onto polystyrene better).
  4. Glue a red pom pom on for the nose, and two wiggle eyes to the polyball once dry.
  5. Attach the reindeer head to the central hessian strip.
  6. Add reindeer antlers by twisting together chenille and pushing them into the polyball.
  7. Finally, tie a bow with hessian and glue to the bottom of the wreath, decorating with star stickers.
